Job Title:       Campaigns Organiser – Ealing – Part-time (1 day per week)
Location:       Home/ LDHQ
Salary:           £28,000 pro rata – (£5,653 pa)
Contract:   Temporary (initially for 6 month) possibility of permanent thereafter.
Hours:            35 hours over 1 month (this amounts to approximately 8 hours/ week over 52 weeks).
                        Some evenings/ weekend working expected/required occasionally, especially at election time. 
Travel:            Travel expenses will be paid to/from and around the borough of Ealing if required.
Reporting to: Line Manager: Moving Forward Seats Campaign Manager.
                        Day-to-day: Local Party Vice Chair / Campaign Manager

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can help the local party build a winning local campaign team. You will be at the heart of our campaign & election strategy to increase the number of Councillors in our council group, growing our volunteer recruitment &
training programme, and producing our leaflets & emails. 

The Liberal Democrats in Ealing are on the up. We have increased the number of Councillors in the 2022 local election to become the official opposition. We are working towards cementing our position as the official opposition, by encouraging activists who are keen to help, to help in
target wards. Part of your role will be to help make this a reality. 

You will either be based at home or LDHQ, working closely with our Councillors,local volunteers and a hard-working campaign-focused solely on painting the borough yellow, ward by ward, and then spreading that further afield.

Job Description: 

  • Literature: Oversee the ordering, printing, bundling and distribution of literature, including liaising with printers about any externally sourced printing and direct mail.
  • Regular Campaign Activity: Liaise with Local Party executive officers and ward teams to coordinate events and activities, such as canvassing sessions, action days, delivery blitzes and phone banks. This may include organising resources and generating canvass lists for Minivan
  • Volunteers: Work with ward teams to recruit, develop and manage volunteers, update and maintain a members and helpers database.
  • Fundraising: Encourage members to sign up to monthly standing orders, or give donations and come to fundraising events.
  • Digital: Work with the local party to keep the local website up to date and social media accounts active.
  • Communications: Work with the local party to set up and implement a regular rhythm of email communications to our email database. The successful candidate will also need to support the good governance of the Liberal Democrats by keeping records of printing and other expenditure, and maintaining standards of records, resources and equipment. They will also need to work within London Liberal Democrats and ALDC’s agreed policies and procedures.
  • Other: Undertake such other duties as the team may require, to further effective communication, campaigning and organisation in Ealing Borough party, particularly around election times. 

Person Specification: 

Essential: 

  • Highly organised, capable of prioritising a demanding workload and ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Able to take initiative, with a 'can-do'; attitude and resilience in pressured/difficult situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills. 
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision, self-motivation and able to manage own workload. 
  • Able to design and write effective content and attractive campaign literature (email & print literature). 
  • Familiarity with current issues within UK politics and sympathy with the values and principles of the Liberal Democrats. 
  • Professionalism and discretion. 
  • Ability to work with Liberal Democrat staff from the London Region, other local parties and HQ as required. 
  • Able to be in Ealing (when needed) and travel around the area.
  • Commitment to the electoral success of the Liberal Democrats.

Desirable: 

  • Experience of campaigning within the Liberal Democrats, including during and outside of election periods.
  • Experience of using standard Lib Dem software and systems, including Connect, Lighthouse and Affinity.
  • Ability to work with and understand how social media can play a part in political campaigning. 
  • Appreciation of GDPR and other laws and regulations relevant to political campaigning.
