Job Title: Campaigns Organiser (Southwark)

Responsible To: Campaigns Manager (England and Wales) and Local Party Chair

Salary:  £25,000 - £30,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience

Length of Contract: Permanent role subject to probationary review after 3 months

Hours: Part-time, 2 days (15 hours) per week

Working Pattern: The working pattern would be agreed with the successful candidate and could be either 2 fixed working days per week or 15 hours over the course of the week. In either case, however, some flexibility would be needed as workload demands, including the occasional evening/weekend meeting/training session (compensated via TOIL). The successful candidate would also be expected to work reasonable additional hours in line with the needs of any election campaigns (also compensated via TOIL).

Location: The successful candidate would be able to work from home, but would be needed to spend some time at the Southwark Liberal Democrats Office in Bermondsey.

Job Details

The Southwark Liberal Democrats are an active local party in South London with 11 councillors on Southwark Council and acting as the official opposition. We are looking for a dynamic and committed Campaigns Organiser to play a key role in building our campaigning efforts in our constituencies ahead of the general election, and across the borough for the local elections in 2026, with the goal of increasing the number of councillors we have in Southwark.

This is a great opportunity to work with a growing and ambitious team of volunteers, campaigners, councillors and Prospective Parliamentary Candidates in the borough.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Regular Campaign Activity: Work with constituency and ward teams to set up regular campaign activity, such as canvassing sessions, action days, delivery blitzes and phone banks. This may include organising resources and generating canvass lists.
  • Literature: Oversee the writing, artworking, printing and distribution of literature, including liaising with printers for externally sourced printing and direct mail.
  • Volunteers: Work with constituency and ward teams to recruit, develop and manage volunteers, and maintain data on volunteers.
  • Digital: Work with the council group and the local party to keep the local websites up to date and social media accounts active.
  • Communications: Support local party officers to ensure regular email and other communications to members about campaigns, fundraising and policy, and work with the council group political assistants to support broader media and public relations activities.

The successful candidate will also need to support the good governance of the Liberal Democrats by keeping records of printing and other expenditure.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Highly organised and motivated, capable of prioritising a demanding workload and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills, including an ability to design and write impactful content and campaign literature
  • Able to take initiative, with a "can-do" attitude and resilience in pressured / difficult situations
  • Able to motivate and manage people
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience of campaigning
  • Committed to the electoral success of the Liberal Democrats

Desirable

  • Experience of using standard Lib Dem software and systems, including Connect, Lighthouse and Affinity, or a willingness to learn
